To get the best out of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, players must complete these side tasks.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a souslike game in which players play as soldiers in China during the Later Han Dynasty. This is a hard and deeply gratifying title with tonnes of replay value, with a large range of weaponry to pick from, foes to battle, and missions to complete.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of Wo Long are its side tasks, which the game calls to as Sub Battlefields. There are several of these to choose from, and they offer a lot of depth and diversity to an already action-packed title.
Escape From The Capital
Escape From The Capital, like many of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s side missions, requires players to complete a prerequisite side quest to access it; in this case, players must have completed the Fall Of The Corrupted Eunuch side mission before they can undertake Escape From The Capital.
As the name implies, this side quest demands players to evacuate Luoyang after an invading army has reached the city and besieged Zhang Rang’s manor. Completing this assignment challenges players to defeat two bosses and results in a slew of fantastic goodies. It is recommended that players enter this side quest with balanced stats (and that they familiarise themselves with the game’s stat system).
The Tiger’s Loyal Subjects
To begin The Tiger’s Loyal Subjects side quest, players must have defeated Sun Jian, a difficult boss who appears in the game’s Darkness Over The Hanshui River chapter.
The goal of the side quest is straightforward: players must beat the warriors Han Dang, Cheng Pu, and Huang Dai. While it may appear straightforward, it is anything but; in fact, this is one of the most difficult side objectives in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty for most players, as all three bosses must be faced at the same time. It’s worth the strain, though, for the great sense of accomplishment that comes from successfully completing such a challenging side quest. If players are having trouble with The Tiger’s Loyal Subjects, they should use the greatest weapon they can get their hands on.
Fate of the Entertainer
The Entertainer’s Ending Completing the Tyrant’s Final Banquet mission unlocks Sub Battlefield. It requires players to find a strange performer while also eliminating the boss Shuigui.
To get to the boss, players must beat a slew of adversaries along the way, and killing Shuigui himself is no easy task. Finishing this side quest grants players the Entertainer Set, one of the more visually appealing sets of light armour in the game. It should be noted that elements of the set are also accessible as random drops in a few other missions in the game.
Legend Of The Thunder God
Legend Of The Thunder God, one of the later-stage Sub Battlefields in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, focused around tracking down and defeating Leishi, the Thunder God himself. To be honest, players should expect to die a lot throughout this battle.
This may sound terrifying, but while Leishi undoubtedly packs a punch, he’s also fairly slow, and most of his attacks are well anticipated. Calling reinforcements to help deal with him is important if other players are having difficulty with this encounter (the greater the reinforcements, the better). Completing the Legend Of The Thunder God unlocks a variety of important equipment as well as a Lieutenant-General Helmet, and the battle with the eponymous Thunder God is thrilling and memorable.
The Crouching Dragon’s Trial
The Crouching Dragon’s Trial, unlocked by completing The Crouching Dragon Roars, is easily one of the most difficult Sub Battlefields in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, requiring players to take on multiple waves of enemies as well as several bosses – no mean feat given the game’s tricky battle system.
Fortunately, players who die in the middle of a mission don’t have to restart it; they’ll resurrect and can continue from the wave of foes where they left off. However, The Crouching Dragon’s Trial is not for the faint of heart, and players should ensure that they have adequately prepared and stocked up on goods before attempting to take it on.
The Scarlet Crystal
The Scarlet Crystal, probably one of Wo Long’s more humorous side quests, invites players to engage in a friendly combat with an NPC named Hong Jing to test if she’s up to the responsibility of completing her departed brother’s dream of cleansing the world of the Elixir’s power.
Funny Shooter 2 game explicitly mentions that Hong Jing is adamant about achieving her goal here, therefore players do not have the choice of declining to battle with her. While she is a very powerful spellcaster, she is also a very sedentary target; in fact, while she is casting, she remains totally motionless, making her a sitting duck for players to counter at their leisure. Players should also use a high-tier weapon for the encounter.
Like Father, Like Son
Like Father, Like Son, another of Wo Long’s less serious Sub Battlefields, asks the player to combat with the NPCs Sun Ce and Sun Jian. Sun Ce wants to spar against a worthy opponent to put his talents to the test, and Sun Jian wants to be a part of it as well.
The battle will begin with just the player and Sun Ce, but don’t be fooled; Sun Jian will enter the action once players have reduced Sun Ce’s health bar sufficiently. Sun Ce is a pretty aggressive opponent, and the best way to take him out is to wait for his stamina to decrease between his flurry and catch him off guard. When Sun Jian joins the fight, players must be extremely cautious not to become surrounded by him and Sun Ce, and they must avoid losing sight of either warrior for too long. As long as players continue this and avoid committing frequent rookie mistakes, the duo should fall apart soon.
The Uninhibited Heart
The Uninhibited Heart is easily one of the most meaningful side quests in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, providing some amazing explanation of the characters of Xun Yu and Guo Jia (the worldbuilding in Wo Long is fantastic, and something that really sets it apart from other soulslikes).
Guo Jia, a gifted strategist, unexpectedly vanished at the start of the journey. Players must assist the conflicted Xun Yu in tracking him down and locating him. To unlock the side task, players must have completed War’s Flames Blaze Fiercely, and it is advised that anyone beginning The Uninhibited Heart be at least level 65.
